Royal Flying Doctor Service - Cairns

Royal Flying Doctor logo

The unique Royal Australian Flying Doctor Service was born of the long and proud Australian tradition of helping a mate.

John Flynn, a minister, saw the need for a "mantle of safety" for the people of outback Australia when he began preaching there in 1912.

The first flight was made from Cloncurry in North West Queensland in May 1928.

Life saving dramas are daily events with emergencies ranging from road, mining and cattle station accidents to difficult births and sudden illness.

The R.F.D.S. is FREE to all those who need it. It relies on donations from people and corporations from all over Australia to supplement Government grants.

A visit to the Royal Flying Doctor centre in Cairns will help keep the Royal Flying Doctor flying.
