CAIRNS - Education

Educational facilities in Cairns.

The Cairns Campus of James Cook University is located north of the city at Smithfield. Its annual enrollment is heading towards the 3000 student mark. The city also has an extensive TAFE College campus combined with a dedicated school of tourism, hospitality and catering. The area is also serviced by 24 State run primary schools, 15 privately run primary schools, seven State high schools and eight special schools.

 

POPULATION

Census statistics show that the Cairns region has a population of 130,000, concentrated in the suburbs surrounding the city, along the Marlin Coast and along the southern suburbs growth corridor. The region's population growth rate is 2.5 per cent per annum, well above the State and national averages.
