The Great Sandy region is considered so geographically significant, it has UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Status placing it in the same class as the Galapagos Islands, Central Amazon, and Uluru.

Situated between the Fraser Coast mainland and Fraser Island, the Great Sandy Strait is part of the Great Sandy region where the warmer water northern currents meet the southern cooler currents. This makes it ideal for fishing with some of the most iconic species including black marlin, golden trevally and barramundi all in the one spot. These warm waters are also perfect for waterskiing, tubing and boating.
