Your two-day Aboriginal culture and adventure experience begins at beautiful Cooya Beach. Taught by experienced local guides who are traditional owners, learn how to use a spear, hunt and gather the traditional way. You’ll be amazed by the variety of bush food and medicine available among the tidal lagoons and mudflats!

Continuing onto the Daintree, you’ll come to the stunning beach at Cape Tribulation where the rainforest meets the reef. Spend the night here at one of 2 popular rainforest properties - Cape Trib Beach House or Fertree Rainforest Resort - depending on the season of travel.  Only metres from the beach, enjoy your night under the rainforest canopy in comfortable accommodation.

Savour a tropical breakfast then enjoy the picturesque drive to the spectacular Mossman Gorge. Here your guide will take you on a rainforest walk and explain the area’s cultural significance.

After lunch, a short drive brings you to Janbal Aboriginal Art Gallery to experience Aboriginal art and culture through hands-on painting and storytelling. View the gallery’s authentic local works and paint your own Aboriginal art style souvenir as a great keepsake.

Aboriginal culture and adventure

This relaxed paced, hands-on experience takes in the iconic Daintree Rainforest and is mixed with genuine local Aboriginal culture. Your local guides will teach you all about the traditional hunting and gathering methods, as well as art techniques. Through story-telling and showing you their beautiful lands, they’ll explain the special connection that they have as traditional owners. This is a special experience on many levels for all ages to enjoy.

Hunters and collectors: Bush food safari

Your tour begins at beautiful Cooya Beach (Kuyu Kuyu), the traditional fishing grounds for the local Aboriginal people. Learn how to spear, hunt and gather the traditional way, taught by experienced local guides who are the traditional land owners. You could earn bragging rights, especially with a fresh fish or crab catch to hand! An amazing variety of bush food and medicine can be collected among the tidal lagoons and mudflats. Then the freshly gathered cuisine will be cooked up in the delicious local manner at the guides’ family home. You’ll savour this unique bush tucker experience!

Spectacular scenery and wildlife

Some unique Aussie wildlife might be spotted, such as a Boyd's Forest Dragon or a cassowary. Other unique sights will be appreciated with views from picturesque drives and scenic lookouts accompanying your cultural journey to the Daintree National Park and Mossman Gorge. You’ll walk through the spectacular gorge and lush heritage-listed rainforest and maybe take a refreshing swim in the pristine waters of the Mossman River. At Cape Tribulation, you’ll see a rare meeting of two ecosystems, where the rainforest and reef converge.

Rainforest, reef and beach

Under the canopy of the World Heritage rainforest, at Cape Tribulation’s stunning beach where the rainforest meets the reef, is where you’ll spend the night. Mere metres from a private beach frontage, voted as one of Lonely Planet’s top 100 beaches in the world, relax in the Cape Trib Beach House's comfortable cabins.  Due to seasonal access restriction, at certain times of the year you will instead enjoy the rainforest seclusion of the Ferntree Rainforest Resort, a short walk from Myall Beach.  At either location, you’ll wake to an ideal place to enjoy your tropical breakfast.

Aboriginal art workshop

The Janbal Aboriginal Art Gallery is a special place located within the rainforest. Through hands-on painting and storytelling, you’ll experience Aboriginal art and culture as well as learn contemporary Aboriginal art styles from a local artist who’s been inspired by his homeland of the World Heritage listed Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. You’ll paint an Aboriginal art style souvenir to keep as your very own personal and unique memento. Enjoy afternoon tea while browsing through the gallery’s showcase of genuine local art and artefacts.
