Come on in, the water is legendary! On your Great Barrier Reef tour boat ride over the reef from Cairns Marlin Marina, you'll be presented with a few snorkelling tips and a reef talk about some of the marvels that await you.
Don't be surprised to be met by some of the locals who have been looking forward to your arrival.
They are a school of intricately-marked giant Maori Wrasse.
These blue beauties might be the same size as you but are known for being the friendliest fish on the reef and each one has a personal name like Wally and George.
As you float along the aqua surface, you'll be amazed by colourful coral formations that are home to the brilliant marine life of the Great Barrier Reef, including clownfish (Nemo) colonies, sea-stars cleaning the ocean floor, and manta-rays hiding in the sand.
You’ll most likely spot a sea turtle and a few dolphins during the winter months!
If you've never snorkeled before, or you would like to know a few things about the marine world below the surface, the guided snorkelling tour is perfect for you!
An experienced marine naturalist will share both tips and quirks about snorkelling on the Outer Great Barrier Reef.

It may even be your day to spot some humpback whales on their annual migration to the safe birthing grounds of the Great Barrier Reef during June - September.
Many travellers visit this part of the world to tick off their dream bucket list; swaying palms, tropical beaches and Australia's Great Barrier Reef and its most spectacular ocean life up close.
If your desire sounds anything like this, it's time to try your first ever scuba dive!
It isn't at all difficult; an experienced instructor will teach you all the skills you need to know about scuba diving.
And soon you'll be gliding weightlessly underwater and breathing under the sea.
The place you’ve chosen for your introductory dive is world famous for its superb coral formations.
With all the colours of the rainbow, you’ll hover over mountains and pinnacles made from coral branches and spot unique fish and marine life.
You’ll drift side by side with stunning yellow angelfish, and damsels that change from sapphire to sea-green before your very eyes!
Though the beauty of Far North Queensland boasts a draw-card of lush islands and breathtaking rainforests, it is the specific jewel of the Outer Great Barrier Reef that calls to many divers.
Certified scuba divers and novices alike have marvelled at the awe-inspiring pinnacles and sweeping walls that drop off into the endless blue.
It only takes one polyp to attach itself to a rock in order to begin an entire reef.
Yet it must have been one special polyp indeed, to have created such a remarkable display of ruby branch thickets, and candy coloured plates and flowers.
Which in turn, has attracted an abundance of fish in every imaginable shape, size and hue.
You can also expect to see some majestic sea turtles, and maybe even a Humpback whale during migration season June - September.
There's another unique way to see this remarkable marine park, and you won't even have to get wet to do it!
The semi-submersible submarine tour will lead you through undersea formations in comfort, with perpsex glass viewing windows into the world’s greatest aquarium.
A marine naturalist will host this undersea adventure while explaining facts about the reef and marine life.
Among the coral gardens, you'll see giant clams, cerulean Parrotfish, and mysterious eels ribboning from crevices.
Some travellers have even spotted a Humpback whale through the glass, and have seen for themselves how these majestic mammals have lungs the size of a small car.
Prepare for your eyes and ears to be dazzled!
Once you've explored the intricate detail of marine life up close, you may want to discover it from above.
Book an optional scenic helicopter flight for an incredible bird's eye view of the reef.
You'll soar above the turquoise waters and spot the shapes of sea turtles, friendly reef sharks, and a huge bounty of marine life on the reef.
You may even spot what looks like the vast shape of a whale fanning the fathoms.
You can be sure your eyes aren’t deceiving you, these amazing mammals migrate here from Antarctica in the winter months.
On the morning of day two, you'll arrive at charming Freshwater Kuranda Train Station to board a train that is still, to this day, considered a monumental engineering feat.
The Kuranda train and Scenic Railway holds to the wonder of yesteryears, as its regal carriages steam through the ancient rainforest.
First built in 1882, this remarkable train ride will propel you through rainforest plateaus and deep ravines and then climbs the majestic Macalister Mountain Range toward Kuranda.
You'll pass the spectacular Barron Gorge, and witness Stony Creek Falls only metres from your window as you pass through no less than 15 handmade tunnels and 37 bridges.
Next stop? A stunning little village set in the heart of mountain peaks.
Kuranda Village is so laden with culture and colourful vibrancy, it will simply take your breath away.
You’ll fall in love with its quaint markets, selling everything from didgeridoos to handmade dreamcatchers.
The eateries are as diverse as they are tempting; you could discover this rainforest paradise while munching on a German bratwurst or home-made local mango sorbet.
Additional places to visit in Kuranda include a butterfly sanctuary, where you’ll see the stunning Ulysses up close, and a fascinating insect park that will have you marvelling over all sorts of weird and wonderful species.
Visit the Koala park and have your photo taken giving the Australian icon the koala a cuddle.
There are many native Autralian wildlife parks to visit in Kuranda so make sure you pop in to see them all.
You could even take in an Indigenous art gallery and come away with your own Dreamtime souvenir!
Your return journey to Cairns will be nothing short of spectacular!
In a suspended glass perspex gondola carriage, high above the trees, you’ll glide just metres above a rainforest canopy before descending into the heart of the jungle on the Skyrail.
On this amazing 7.5km ride, you'll view stunning waterfalls and mountain peaks, and enjoy wildlife and eco-attractions at two stops along the way where you alight from the gondolas and take a look around at the interactive dispalys and see the amazing Barron Falls.
Port Douglas is a sought-after tropical destination and the epitome of an iconic coastal town.
Favoured by personalities such as Bill Clinton and Kate Hudson, this boutique village is a haven of beachside beauty.
You'll visit the award-winning Wildlife Habitat where you'll meet some of Australia's rare, endangered and beautiful native animals. In this safe and eco-friendly park, you can pat a python, hand-feed kangaroos, and cuddle up to a furry koala.
You could also opt to have a commemorative photo taken alongside all of these memorable Australian characters.
Your next stop is a kingdom of goliath trees and bubbling springs, Mossman Gorge.
Enjoy a guided walk through the ancient rainforest and hear the extraordinary Dreamtime legends of the Kuku Yalanji people, and their sacred connection to this domain.
As you venture on boardwalks that cross running rapids and impressive, suspended bridges, be on the lookout for a few more attractions in the trees; you could very well be trekking alongside a goanna, or become the subject of a cute flying foxes’ curiosity.
Cape Tribulation is a lush basin on the cusp of overlooking mountain peaks and azure bays.
Named by Captain Cook, who found this place a "mesmerizing labyrinth", this World Heritage area is home to reptiles, furry marsupials, and rare birds.
Here you'll enjoy a chef-prepared lunch at Cape Trib Beach house, located just metres from Cape Tribulation Beach.
Then relax at Cape Tribulation Beach where the "Rainforest meets the Reef", or enjoy a walk or a swim (seasonal).
See our 2 day Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest tour
The final journey of the day is a one-hour Daintree River Wildlife and Crocodile cruise.
This is a rare location to see wildlife at play in their native habitat, including of course the famed Saltwater crocodile.

We look forward to helping you with your travel plans again on your next trip to Australia!
It was a great 3 days. From the first day when we got on Down Under reef and dive the crew were great. JC and Aaron took us throug the skills to learn to dive and we had a great day. Tommy was a great cook and the music at the end of the day was a great way to return from the reef. The whole crew were helpful and it was great. The next day on the train was educational and again the crew were so helpful walking around helping with family photos and the like. Going up the Daintree, Daniel was an exceptional guide and was willing and able to answer every question everyone asked him. He was also helpful in giving advice as to where to go and what to see.
