Whether you’re in Cairns or Yorkeys Knob for one night or just the day on a cruise ship tour, we can tailor a return Skyrail trip to Kuranda, the ‘Village in the Rainforest’, according to how much available time you have.
The Skyrail Rainforest Cableway is one of Cairns’ top attractions. Experience World Heritage-listed rainforest from a unique perspective, gliding just metres above the rainforest canopy as you travel to and from Kuranda on our award winning Gondola tour.
When guests arrive on a cruise ship to Yorkeys Knob in the Cairns Beaches we send a coach to pick them up from the Yorkeys Knob Boat Club, and take them to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway Smithfield Terminal to board your gondola and head up the mountain to Kuranda Village.
If your cruise ship is berthed in Cairns we can pick up passengers from the Cairns Cruise Ship Terminal in Wharf Street according to the cruise ship docking time.
Allow approximately 90 minutes for your Skyrail journey to Kuranda Village with two interprative rainforest station stops along the way where you alight and take a walk around to admire the views.
With only the rainforest canopy below, the rumblings of the cable cars gliding past, and the sound of birds calling to each other, you’ll realise just how vast this ancient landscape is.
Once at Kuranda explore the markets of the quaint village, sip on a coffee made from locally roasted coffee beans, taste mango wine, and if time permits, visit a native Australian wildlife attraction.
Cuddle a koala at the Koala Gardens, or wander the Southern Hemisphere’s largest butterfly exhibit before heading back to your coach transfer.
The exact coach pick-up time for your Kuranda tour from Yorkeys Knob Boat Club and Cairns depends on when your cruise ship arrives.
If its earlier than expected, give us a call once you’re on the ship’s tender and we’ll arrange for a coach to collect you within 20 minutes.
Cruise ships into Cairns normally run pretty much on time and we complete our shore cruises with plenty enough time to return to the ship at the end of the day.
As you silently glide over the canopy of World Heritage-listed rainforest in the Skyrail gondola, you’ll enjoy spectacular panoramic views first of the Coral Sea and Cairns city and then of rainforest, tumbling waterfalls, and the Barron River.
Take the opportunity to alight at the two rainforest interprative stations and admire the views.
The first is Red Peak Station, where you can enjoy a complimentary Ranger-guided tour, and the second is Barron Falls Station.
Here you’ll have access to the CSIRO Rainforest Interpretation Centre.
Find out more about the area’s fascinating history at the historical display.
Once you’ve arrived at the quaint Kuranda Village in the Rainforest’, you’ll have time to explore at your own leisure.
The daily Heritage Markets are a nod to the ingrained arts culture of Kuranda and are a must-do.
You’ll find woodwork, handmade leather goods, pottery, glasswork, jewellery, and more.
Indulge in a sweet treat, paired with coffee made from locally roasted beans, at one of the many cafés, or put your walking shoes to use, venturing along one of the surrounding tracks; suitable for every age and fitness level.
Or perhaps you’d like to explore one of the top tourist attractions, including Birdworld, Australia’s largest butterfly sanctuary, and the Kuranda Koala Gardens.
There is so much to see and do in Kuranda that your challenge will be fitting it all in.
When it’s time to head back to the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway station, the line will diminish quickly as passengers are efficiently assigned gondolas.
If you didn’t alight at either of the rainforest stations on the way to Kuranda, do so now if you have the time.
The interpretive rainforest tour at Red Peak Station, led by an experienced Ranger, is highly informative and well worth it.
You’ll learn of the kauri pine that is hundreds of years old, and other flora and fauna that call this ancient habitat home.
Then it’s back through more World Heritage-listed rainforest before disembarking at Smithfield Terminal where you’re coach awaits to take your cruise ship back to Yorkeys Knob Boat Club or Cairns Cruise Ship terminal.
