  • The very real opportunity to land a legendary Barramundi, or catch your first delicious Mud crab!

The estuaries of Cairns Inlet are represented by a maze of winding creeks, channels, and deep lagoons that prove to be an ultimate catch theme park for fisherman! This unique area boasts more than 100 kilometres of waterways, where you’ll find a jaw-dropping bounty of Grunter, Mangrove Jack, perhaps even a Mud crab or two, and the prize of all anglers; the Barramundi.

With their expertise in both the water ways and target species that school there, this locally owned team, Daryl and Raewyn, are on hand to share their knowledge with first-time fisherman, and locate the perfect catch for seasoned enthusiasts.

Cairns Inlet is a fishing extravaganza, not only because the place is teeming with target species, but likewise due to its mangrove-lined shores. A breeding ground for tropical saltwater fish, the waterways are also a natural habitat for rare wildlife; which means you could catch that delicious Mud crab, while spotting a Saltwater crocodile!

You’ll use only the most advanced equipment (feel free to bring your own rod). There’s also an hour break on this angling adventure to stop and grab yourself lunch at the Marina (applies for full day tours only), and maybe sip on a cold beer, ready for the next afternoon catch!

Your Fishing Adventure on Cairns Inlet

Famed as one of the most fertile and abundant breeding grounds, this 100 kilometre maze of stream, inlets, and deep channels is where your dream catch is waiting. With the mangrove lined shores and mud flats, the many destinations to choose from will change each day based on your skipper’s expertise and know-how. Taking important variables into consideration, the very best in active fish biting is chosen by the tides, moon, time of the year and seasons.

This lush, world heritage river system is only a short ride from the main city of Cairns, and you’ll take a short break at lunchtime to grab yourself a delicious snack, and maybe a cold beverage before the catch commences all afternoon.

Fishing Style

Some anglers say nothing compares to the challenge of light tackle. Others swear by the excitement of seeing your catch chase the lure. On this tour, novices can learn their new favourite technique by participation, and fishing devotees are welcomed to cast with their tried and true preference. Only the best and most advanced rods, tackle and reels are used today, with a choice of lure, live bait, jigging and bottom fishing. And with bottom fishing, the oldest method known to man, you’ll cast a rod or hand-line to hook species that hover near the river floor. Your friendly guides are happy to rebait and rig your line for you, as you discover your own thrilling method or indulge in personal preference!

The Ultimate Catch

This could be your perfect opportunity to catch that huge Barramundi, or your first Mud crab. While waiting your favourite catch to take the bite, keep your eyes peeled on the river banks as you might just spot a Saltwater Crocodile. At the end of  your estuary fishing tour you can take your catch to one of the numerous Cairns waterfront restaurants to get it cooked just the way you like it.

Seasonal Fish

If you’re headed to the Far North Queensland waterways, with its phenomenal fishing in mind, you might also have a dream target species on your wish list too. Many fully fledged enthusiasts plan their holiday around the best and most bountiful seasons for landing the Big One.
