This private charter wildlife tour from Cairns can be tailored to your particular area of interest - whether in ornathology with birds, native Australian wildlife, flora and fauna, food or nature - or all!

Departing daily from Cairns we take our guests on a unique private charter tour catering for 2 guests in our Four Wheel Drive vehicle or up to 11 guests in our larger vehicles.

On a private charter rainforest tour you could be exploring the rainforest at dusk, when most wildlife becomes active, or embarking on an exploration under the stars, or during daylight - the choice is yours as we explore the Atherton Tablelands behind Cairns.

Your experienced tour guides know where our native Australian animals and rare creatures reside. And, if the timing is right, will introduce you to some of Australia’s most-loved animals, including the elusive platypus – which you have a 90 per cent chance of seeing.

Other interesting and exotic native Australian animals you can expect to spot include flying foxes, tree kangaroos and bandicoots.

Twitchers or bird watchers – you might be lucky to see black kites, kingfishers, riflebirds, bowerbirds, finches, pittas, a variety of parrots, honeyeaters and robins.

You’ll also learn how local Aboriginal tribes have used the diverse range of plants found in this region to survive, and you might even get to sample some of the rainforest fruits!

Your full-day nature and wildlife tour includes your choice of an Aussie-style BBQ or picnic lunch, as well as a delicious country dinner in Yungaburra.

You can tailor your private charter tour itinerary with your transport of choice – be it the relaxing comfort of a tour bus or an action-packed off-road 4WD adventure.

Four Wheel Drive Vehicles

We can offer:

Our 4WD vehicle is a comfortable (with air conditioning) Toyota Landcruiser that will take you comfortably into your journey of discovery and exploration in the mountain region of the Atherton Tablelands.

Our tour bus is a Toyota High Ace 11 seater luxury bus (with air conditioning) that will transport you in comfort to the sights and places on your day.

The Atherton Tablelands of Tropical North Queensland

The Cairns Tablelands (also known as the Atherton Tablelands) are within easy access of Cairns and is an area of outstanding natural beauty located 800 metres above sea level.

The Wet Tropics and Rainforest World Heritage covers a large area of 894,420 hectares between Cooktown and Townsville.

Home to twelve of the world’s nineteen families of primitive flowering plants, the Wet Tropics has over 2,800 different plant species with more than 700 that are unique to this area.

The region is also home to 315 mammal species, 13 of which are found nowhere else in the world, as well as a diverse range of frog, bird and insect species.

Keep your eyes peeled for sightings of green possums, ringtail possums, fierce marsupial cats, rare bats, Lumholtz tree kangaroos, Melomys (small rodents), Antechinus (marsupial mouse)

  • Duck-billed platypus (90 per cent viewing success rate) Viewed from the private access viewing area
  • Algie wallabies
  • Boyd’s forest dragon

This stunning area also has a connection to 20 Aboriginal tribal groups that have ongoing traditional links to land in this area.

Danbulla National Park and State Forest

This scenic forest is located on the Cairns Atherton Tablelands and has some wonderful things to see and do.

Just wandering under the ancient Cathedral fig trees or under the canopy of the giant Queensland Kauri pines standing at 50m (156ft) tall is an experience.

There are some wonderful walks that you can do in the forest. When you consult with our expert tour guides they can suggest the best ones to go on that will fit in with the rest of your day.

Lake Tinaroo is a popular area for swimming, sailing and fishing.  Swim in the crystal clear waters of this volcanic crater.  If you wish you can have your lunch as a picnic on the banks of this scenic lake.

The wildlife in the Danbulla forest has many rare and endangered species. Keep an eye out for the endangered northern bettong as it hunts around for truffles.

In the rainforest area you might see the beady eyes of a green-eyed tree frog or a flitting Boyd’s forest dragon as it runs on its back legs.

Amongst the diverse flora and fauna you can see an array of bird species, so take your binoculars and be prepared to be amazed.

Stop by the stunning Lake Eacham - an extinct crystal clear volcanic lake. Cool down and take a refreshing swim in the crystal waters. Look out for saw shelled turtles, spurting archerfish and eastern water dragons.

The best time to see wildlife is at dusk on a night tour. About 80 per cent of animals are nocturnal in the rainforest and are only active at night. Armed with a flashlight you will head into the forest to discover the unfolding wildlife.

With so little light pollution you’ll be able to see the Southern Cross and the Milky Way if you gaze into the night sky.

If you wish, you can stop for afternoon tea at Lake Barrine, a volcanic crater lake set amongst the flora and fauna of the surrounding rainforest complete with scenic towering Twin Bull Kauri Pines.

A stunning place to have a well earned rest.

We look forward to planning your special interest private charter tour from Cairns to see outback Far North Queenslands Atherton Tablelands.
