Our small group Cairns rainforest tour, will have you picked up from Cairns accommodation at 7.50am, and Northern Beaches accommodation at 6.55am, to take you on a day of exploring the natural delights of Wooroonooran National Park, a World Heritage listed area among the Wet Tropics

Wooroonooran National Park is located only 30mins South of Cairns City, and is a hidden gem that our certified Wet Tropic guides are proud to share with you.

Along the way, our nature-loving guides will provide you with fascinating facts about the local Flora & Fauna as you walk the trails of this pristine National Park full of trees that are hundreds of years in age. 

Your day with us on our Cairns rainforest tour will include lush rainforests, a unique and protected wetlands area, which is a key site for native Australian wildlife spotting, waterfalls, as well as a journey on a salt water river cruise.

The region we take you to provides breathtaking photographic opportunities of the local Australian wildlife such as Crocodiles, Estuary Birds, Platypus, Fruit Bats, Lumholtzs Tree-Kangaroos and Cassowaries.

Wooroonooran National Park covers most of the Bellenden Ker Range, and is home to Queenslands two tallest mountains, Mount Bartle Frere [1622 metres], and Mount Bellenden Ker [1,592 metres] which you will pass on your journey to beautiful Josephine Falls.  

You will also travel past Walshs Pyramid, which stands 922 m in height, and is one of the highest free-standing natural pyramids in the world.

Our Cairns rainforest tour is perfect for nature-lovers, as well as wildlife and landscape photographers.

Here is how your day will unfold:

Wallaby Spotting

Your first stop for the day, will be at White Rock where you will get to witness Wallabies in the wild.  This is a great photo opportunity to capture them grazing in their natural habitat.

Walsh’s Pyramid and Queensland’s Two Tallest Mountains

Your next destination is at Josephine Falls. Along the way you will pass local sugar cane farms and banana farms that lay at the base of some unique mountain formations such as Walsh’s Pyramid, a naturally formed pyramid shaped mountain which stands at 922 metres tall.

Then past Queensland’s two tallest mountains, Mount Bellenden Ker at 1,592 metres tall, and Mount Bartle Frere at 1,622 metres tall. Both are outstanding features of the Bellenden Ker Ranges.

Josephine Falls

Here we take you on a trail through the rainforest to view a waterfall that consist of a series of smaller waterfalls that cascade down through large boulders.

The 700metre walking trail [1,400 metres return] is surrounded by tall, dense trees, palms & vines alongside rippling creeks that run through the rainforest.

Eubenangee Wetlands

At this location you will be offered binoculars for observing wildlife from a prominent location to get the best viewing of this unique and protected wetland. The area is known as a natural crocodile breeding habitat, and is also home to a variety of birds, and mammals including Platypus, Spectacled Flying-fox, and Lumholtz's Tree-Kangaroo.

Roscoes For Lunch Stop

For lunch, we will take you to the farming township of Innisfail to enjoy a sumptuous Italian style Buffet lunch at Roscoes Piazza.

Roscoes is famous for their large range of Italian pastas, pizzas, salads and desserts. This lunch is guaranteed to keep you fuelled with energy for the remainder of the day.

Johnstone River Wildlife Spotting Cruise

After lunch, we will take you on a 1hour river cruise on the Johnstone River where you will have the opportunity to do some more wildlife spotting.

On this river, we will be looking for the massive Estuarine Crocodiles that are often seen basking in the sun during the day.  You will learn about the unusual breeding habits dinosaur-like predators.

On this cruise you will see a variety of estuary birds that inhabit the area as well as the magnificent mangrove forests that line the river.

Quite often, the amazing giant Cassowary birds are also seen on the banks of the river. So, make sure you have those binoculars ready in hand.

Babinda Boulders

At this location, you will see incredible formations uniquely shaped granite boulders, which over thousands of years have formed a gorge of cascades and swimming holes.

You will soon understand why it is called the “Boulders”. There is also a legendary indigenous story that has been passed down through the generations about how “The Boulders” was created.  

Your guide will share this story with you on the day.

Take a Refreshing Swim In The Cool Waters Of A Rainforest Swimming Hole

Before your day with us ends, you will have the chance to take a refreshing swim in the crystal-clear waters of a rainforest fringed swimming hole at Babinda Boulders.

So be sure to take your swimwear and towel with you.

6.55am:  Depart Cairns Northern Beaches Accommodation

7.50am:  Depart Cairns Accommodation

8.20am:  Wallaby viewing at White Rock

9.15am:  Eubenangee Wetlands (bird and crocodile watching with binoculars)

10.15am: Depart Eubenangee Wetlands

10.45am:  Arrive at Josephine Falls (walk and rainforest ecology features. No swimming here)

11.45am: Depart Josephine Falls

12.15pm:  Arrive at Roscoes Restaurant for Buffet Italian Lunch

1.10pm: Depart Roscoes Restaurant

1.25pm:  Arrive for 1hour Johnstone River Cruise (crocodile and other wildlife viewing)

2.25pm: Depart Johnstone River

3.20pm:  Arrive at Babinda Boulders (walk, Aboriginal legend talk and opportunity for swimming)

4.30pm: Depart Babinda Boulders

5.30pm:  Arrive back to Cairns

6.00pm:  Arrive back to Northern Beaches

If the event that heavy rainfall causes flooding at the Eubangagee Wetlands destination, the tour will divert to an alternative destination at Etty Bay Beach where Cassowaries are frequently sighted combing the beach.

Sun protection advised: Hat, sunglasses, insect repellent, comfortable enclosed walking shoes, camera. Day pack for carrying personal items, swimwear, towel and spare clothes for swimming.
