Depart from Cairns on our great value well priced budget day tour to the Outer Great Barrier Reef. You’ll visit two reef sites selected by the Captain to give you the best reef exploration possible on the day. Expect abundant marine life and vibrant coral formations.
Our Great Barrier Reef tour offers a great cheap day tour deal that departs from Cairns to dive and snorkel two different locations on the Outer Great Barrier Reef of Australia with up to only 80 passengers onboard during peak season.
Whether you’re an experienced scuba diver or first-timer, our marine crew are there to show you how to see the Great Barrier Reef in the safest and most fun of ways.
You’ll have the option of up to two dives during the Great Barrier Reef tour and unlimited snorkeling.
If you’d prefer just to snorkel on your day trip, floating above schools of colourful tropical fish as they dart among the coral formations, there’s plenty of allocated water time to do so and we have flotation equipment on board to keep you afloat.
Once you’ve set sail at 8.30am you’ll head to the first coral reef site, chosen by the Captain on the day based on the tide and wind conditions to ensure optimal visibility and variety. It’s here you’ll meet some of the underwater locals including ‘Nemo’, turtles and stingrays.
With both air-conditioned interiors and sundecks available on the boat there are plenty of spots to relax in between the water-based activity.
Our boat will will venture out to the second coral reef site around lunchtime so you can explore a different and diverse reef that will be home to a different variety of marinelife.
Later, on the way back to Cairns, there’ll be a quick stop at our liveaboard dive boat where guests who have pre-booked one or more nights on the liveaboard boat will transfer to this overnight vessel to begin their sleep on the reef dive and snorkel adventure.
The meeting point is the ‘B’ Finger at Cairns Marlin Marina at 8.00am. Be on time as any delays will eat into valuable time trying to find Nemo and the boat won’t wait for you. The vessel will depart at 8.30am.
Every day the Captain will pick the two best spots for variety and optimal visibility so you can see as much of the marine life in action as possible based on the days weather.
This selection is dependent on wind and tide conditions and with the operator being licensed for snorkelling and diving at 17 exclusive sites you can have peace of mind they have a solid pool of options to pick from. The crew wants you have an unforgettable experience.
It’ll take approximately 90 minutes to reach the first dive and snorkel site. During this time both first-time and experienced divers will be briefed on the days events.
You’ll arrive at your destination at about 10.00am. As the divers slip into the tropical waters for the first time that day the snorkellers will receive their briefing.
Our dive sites are frequented by myriads of tropical and Palegic Fish, Rays, Turtles, (friendly) Sharks and the ever popular diver friendly Maori Wrasse.
There are swim throughs, wall and drift dives that will appeal to every level of diver experience.
By 10.30am most people will be in the water eager to spot turtles, stingrays, or any of the many different species that call the reef home. The semi-submerged deck at the vessel’s rear makes it easy to jump in and out as you please.
Snorkelling is as easy as breathing and one of the most accessible ways of discovering what this World Heritage listed site has to offer. If you haven’t snorkelled for a while and are feeling a little nervous, or have questions you’d prefer to ask one-on-one, don’t worry, the tour guides are there to help you.
Take advantage of the free guided snorkel tours. The experienced staff will fill you in on little tidbits you may not discover on your own.
Prescription snorkels are available for a small deposit. There are also lycra sun suits if you’re visiting the reef between the months of November and May and are worried about jellyfish.
It’s important to note that if you choose to scuba dive during this trip to the reef it will cost you more than if you were to only snorkel and you need to book online to ensure your dive spots.
The total price is dependent on the number of dives you elect to do – with a maximum of two dives available on this boat – and the time of year.
As mentioned, the Captain will choose the two reef sites for the day based on wind and tide conditions. The aim is to maximise variety so divers of all levels can experience the diversity of the reef ecosystem.
Remember to bring your dive certification card and logbook with you onboard to show the crew.
This Outer Great Barrier Reef tour from Cairns is an ideal option for first time and non-certified divers. After a briefing on board the vessel in which you will learn the basic priciples and communications techniques, you will be provided with all you need to enjoy your scuba experience including wetsuit, BCD, fins and mask.
Get comfortable with your equipment on the vessel and then enter the water, heading under the surface in a group of 4 with an experienced instructor.
Once you reach depth, you will again work through some skills to ensure your safety and then begin the true underwater adventure among the corals of the Great Barrier Reef.
At around lunch, when the tropical buffet is served, the boat will start moving to the second site. Once you’ve arrived there is more snorkelling and diving time.
The afternoon session will wrap up as the Captain needs to drop off those who are staying on the reef as part of the overnight experience aboard our liveaboard vessel. Your boat will pull up beside the larger vessel at about 2.00 – 2.30pm.
Feel free to ask about extending your stay on the reef at the time of booking and maybe enjoying a liveaboard dive and snorkel tour.
