Highlights

  • Take advantage of the many talks and presentations that are on throughout the day. You’ll learn far more about the dome’s inhabitants than you would exploring on your own.
  • Jo Jo the cockatoo is a huge character in the park. You’ll most likely hear him when you enter as he screeches a big, “Hello!” He also likes a boogie, so if you want to help him along, play his favourite song from your phone, ‘I like to move it’ from the movie Madagascar, and he’ll start to dance!

Perfect Selfie

  • The Dome Climb, with its amazing views of Trinity Inlet, the Coral Sea, mountains to the west, and beaches to the north, is the perfect selfie spot. That’s right, you can take your camera out with you, as long as it’s attached to you, which the staff will show you how to do. There’s also a fixed camera on the Dome itself, snapping away as you trek around the Dome. Photos can be purchased.

Itinerary

Wildlife Dome

Immerse yourself in a rainforest environment in the heart of Cairns city. Meet Snowy, the rare white kookaburra; Jo Jo, the sulphur-crested cockatoo; and Goliath the 4.1m estuarine crocodile. Mingle with the inquisitive, free-roaming rainforest wallabies and native birds.

Surrounded my more than 60 species of animals including amphibians, reptiles, mammals and marsupials, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to learn more about the dome’s inhabitants through a series of shows and presentations.

Remember to have your photo taken with a koala. Look out for the designated photography area next to the reception.

Koala photos are taken on the half hour from 9:30am to 6:30pm. Anyone can hold a koala as long as they are over 120cm tall and follow the wildlife keeper’s instructions. Snake and crocodile photos are taken on the hour between 9.30am to 4:30pm.
