Day 1 Cape York Air Tour (L&D)
Dep. Cairns Airport General Aviation at 8-30am
We take some time to get to know our fellow passengers, host and pilot and then weigh in and sit thru our flight safety briefing.
We then strap in and begin our climb skywards and as we level out you will see the brilliant blue waters and lace like coral gardens of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia right down below.
Iconic points of interest along our scenic flight route are Endeavour Reef where Captain Cooks ship Endeavour went aground in 1770 then on past Hope Isles named by Captain Cook hoping they could sail there in time to make the necessary repairs to the ailing ship.
Our first port of call for day 1 is Cooktown where we partake in a historical town tour that takes us from Captain Cook’s visit through the Gold Rush days that brought immigrant miners from around the world of whom make up the multicultural and interesting population it is today.
Our Cooktown tour includes all points of interest in town such as seeing Cooks Monument and a cannon off his ship in the Cooktown Museum, enjoy the views from Grassy Hill Lookout and walk the pioneer cemetery where you will be intrigued by the stories of trials and tribulations, then it’s onto lunch at the local RSL and some free time to explore the town and do some souvenir shopping.
Departure time from Cooktown is 2 pm and our flight path will take us past Lizard Island with its magnificent Blue Lagoon, then up to Cape Melville which is renowned for it’s massive boulder formations, underground rivers and being the origin of the Fox Tail Palm.
See Princess Charlotte Bay, Lockhart River, the remote tropical wilderness as we fly our way to Bramwell Station where we stay overnight and enjoy live entertainment and mix it with the many that four wheel drive enthusiasts who have driven the Peninsula Development Road (PDR) or “Pretty Dusty Road,” as some say.
Day 2 Cape York Air Tour (B, L & D)
We gather our belongings and depart Bramwell Station after enjoying a hearty stockman’s breakfast and prepare to fly on to Bamaga where we take our four wheel drive tour to The Tip of Cape York for that “I Made It” photo.
We then fly around Cape York Australia’s northern most point, then over the Torres Straits to Horn Island, for our comfortable overnight at Gateway Resort.
Whilst here we will explore its Heritage Museum and Art Gallery which displays a comprehensive coverage of the Torres Strait Islanders traditional lifestyle, culture and myths.
Hear all about the legendary pearling days when fleets of pearling lugers combed the straits for its riches and about the wartime history of Australia’s front line defenses.
Day 3 Cape York Air Tour (B,L&D)
Early breakfast at 7.30am in the Gateway Hotel and then we take a transfer to the wharf or walk (5 minutes) for our ferry cruise to visit Thursday Island which was once a remote outpost of the British Empire and a vital shipping port serving the Torres Straits, and the valuable pearling industry. Today it is the government administrative center for the Torres Strait Islands.
Our Thursday Island tour takes us through areas that have changed very little in time past. We will view the historical Customs House and hotels, modern teaching and medical facilities, Green Hill Fort which was built to defend against the Russians in the Crimean War days with its underground museum.
See spectacular views of the surrounding islands, Prince of Wales, Horn, Good, Hammond and scenic Friday Island with its working pearling station.
Today will be full of enjoyment and relaxation within the Torres Strait Islands and a pleasant surprise you will always treasure.
After lunch we travel back to Horn Island Airport and fly south over the Torres Straits and down the west coast of Cape York to Weipa. This remote and little known region is a haven for barramundi, prawn (shrimp) spawning the crocodiles habitat with its continuous beaches and numerous river deltas, arriving at Weipa set on magnificent Albatross Bay.
Enjoy dinner with a complimentary wine while watching the beautiful sunset into the Gulf of Carpentaria Sea.
Day 4 Cape York Air Tour (B&L)

We take a tour of Weipa township once a remote mission and see the vast bauxite mining operation, an enterprise to be admired that has grown from its rugged beginning to becoming a major supplier to the international market.
After morning tea at the shopping centre we fly over Coen in the cape to Musgrave Station for lunch where you can cross paths once more and yarn with the four wheel drive enthusiast on their adventurous tours of the Cape.
Then for our scenic flight on the way back to Cairns we fly low over Laura, the Daintree River Valley and Port Douglas so you can look down on the inland river systems and homesteads of Cape York and the lush green rainforests.
