Highlights

  • It’s obvious the knowledgeable tour guides love their jobs. They are all passionate locals who thrive on showing visitors this part of the world and you will find their commentary a valuable part of your day.
  • The incredible Limestone Caves. They are truly spectacular and if you’re struggling with the heat of the outback in summer, keep in mind it’s considerably cooler in the caves, which makes for a comfortable exploration.
  • Mt Uncle Distillery is the only distillery in Far North Queensland.  Try the range of award-winning, hand-crafted liqueurs & spirits during your visit. The café also boasts over 50 teas, plus a selection of homemade desserts.

Perfect Selfie

  • Mt Uncle Distillery, with its beautiful landscaped gardens and roaming peacocks provides another opportunity for a selfie. And with alpacas, donkeys and goats to meet, there’s a potential selfie opportunity a minute.

Itinerary

Head for the Hills

The day will begin with a pick-up from your accommodation in the custom-built, air-conditioned four-wheel-drive. You’ll head west to the Mareeba Wetlands, up the Kuranda range, then over dirt road via the back blocks through Biboorha. Keep a lookout for emus, kangaroos and wedge-tailed eagles along the way.

A morning tea of coffee, tea and biscuits awaits, followed by a 20-minute guided cruise of the wetlands aboard an environmentally-friendly, quiet electric boat. You’ll learn about the fragile ecosystem of this area including the wildlife and local water birds.

Note, this component is weather permitting due to the dirt road. If the road is closed, you will visit Granite Gorge instead.
