Your Aboriginal tour guide will take your trekking through the mangroves, where you can try your hand at finding giant mud-crabs! Your tribal tour guide, Juan, keeps the group to a minimum of only 11 guests for a personalised cultural experience, and will likewise take you to pristine, secluded beaches with a chance of spearing a shark in front of your eyes!

When your lunch bounty has been caught, Juan will cook this seafood extravaganza traditionally for you. Since this is such a cosy group, you’ll be welcomed into Juan’s extraordinary life and home, where you’ll dine on his mum’s veranda!

This is also where you’ll witness a treasure trove of Aboriginal artifacts, before heading to the evergreen beauty of Mossman Gorge. Here, you’ll spend your time wading in the crystal-clear creeks before the scenic journey home.

Your Day of Aboriginal Cultural Adventure

You’ll gain a fascinating knowledge of the Kuku Yalanji Aborignal people’s custom and legend, and carry a sense of cultural appreciation, as well as some breathtaking scenery, back home in your memories.

Travelling north by air-conditioned vehicle, you’ll arrive at the Daintree Rainforest, where a mythical world of Aboriginal cultural discovery awaits.

You’ll likewise visit the sublime beaches of Wonga and Cooya to view a breathtaking tropical panorama and learn a few fishing tips. And from here, you’ll trek into mangrove realms to try your luck at spearing a Giant mud-crab for lunch!

Learn to Hunt and Spear at Beaches and Mangroves

On this part of the day, you’ll not only be taken to sublime tropical beaches, but likewise back to a timeless Aboriginal hunting tradition. On the golden stretch of coastline ranging from Cooya to Wonga beach, you’ll wade in the balmy shallow waters with a riveting presentation on how to master a spear!

You’ll also be taken on a magical walk in the mangrove depths; a shoreline forest rich with beauty and customary tribal food! These seaside woodlands offer an array of Pipis (shellfish) and bountiful Giant mud-crab.

It might be your lucky to day spear a fish or crab, or even see your personable guide, Juan, land a shark for your feast. Which he’ll then steam with mouthwatering butter, garlic and coconut, along with a delicious selection of paw-paw, passionfruit, and damper drizzled with golden syrup!

And you may even be fortunate enough to catch enough crab to take home for your resort chef to cook up at dinner!

Traditional Flora and Fauna of the Rainforest

Since the Daintree Rainforest is the oldest and most rare habitat in the world, it makes senses that its residents are something you’ll find are just as unique!

It will look as though you’re walking a jungle path in the most remote and secluded part of the world, but these massive trees and goliath plants hide a vast array of wildlife.

And the Kuku Yalanji Aboriginal people, being harmonious conservationists of the land, only take what they need in the way of food and medicine, and are diligently respectful for endangered species, such as the 2m, rainbow plumed cassowary, and tree kangaroo; both of which are only found in these parts, worldwide.

The breathtaking peak that stands sentry over the gorge is Manjal Dimbi; roughly translated as ‘mountain holds back’. And its large rock ‘Kubirri’ is said to have helped the tribe when visited by an evil spirit.

And now Kubirri holds the spirits away. This is just one of the magnificent tales you’ll learn along with an extraordinary trek, along with the intoxicating swim at this famous destination.
