DAY 1 - Hervey Bay to Fraser Island

Departing 9am Daily from River Heads, Hervey Bay your Fraser Island adventure begins with the 50 minute ferry accross the Great Sandy Strait where you may spot dolphins, turtles or even a dugong!  On arrival, your tour guide will meet you at the resort's Jetty for a short briefing before your Fraser Island 4WD adventure begins!

Basin Lake - first stop is a walk to beautiful Basin Lake along sand tracks - one of Fraser Island's unique perched lakes with crystal clean water.
Central Station - explore the historic heart of Fraser Island which was once a bustling logging camp until the late 1950's.
Wanggoolba Creek - home to to fish, turtles and eels Wanggoolba Creek is crystal clear freshwater creek surrounded by lush tropical rainforest. Make sure to stop and check out the rare King Fern, not found anywhere else on Fraser Island.
Pile Valley - be dwarfed by these towering giants as you walk through the majestic giants of the Stinay tree forest.
Lake McKenzie - Located 100meters above sea level, Lake McKenzie is one of the well known and stunning freshwater lakes on Fraser Island.  Enjoy a refreshing afternoon swim before heading back to Wilderness Lodge for overnight accommodation.

  • Ferry departs River Heads at 9am (Check in by 8:15am)
  • FROM FRASER ISLAND:
  • Ferry departs Kingfisher Bay Resort at 8.30pm (2 Day Tour)
  • Drop off to Hervey Bay accommodation or coach terminal 9:30pm-10pm.
Departure Instructions
  • You'll need to have a day-pack ready when you check in at the Mainland Reception (River Heads), as your 4WD adventure begins as soon you get to Fraser Island. Dont forget to pack your swimmers, towel, hat, sunscreen and sunglasses, comfortable walking shoes or sandals, insect repellent, essential medication and of course a camera to click all the action! Cold water is available on tour however its a good idea to take your own bottle.
  • Your main backpack or other luggage will be delivered to the Wilderness Lodge storage area for you to collect in the afternoon. Each guest may check in free of charge up to two items of luggage with a maximum weight of 25 kilograms each. Additional luggage will be charged a fee.
  • Please ensure you check in to the Kingfisher Bay Mainland Terminal (at River Heads) by 8:15am.
  • Those travelling with a campervan can drive to River Heads Mainland Reception where they can receive a secure pin to gain access to the parking facilities. Bookings are recommended. 1 night rate is a $25 local payment.
  • Although our Tours are all-inclusive, dont forget money for souvenirs (an ATM is available at the resort) and drinks at the bar. The resorts Village Store sells resort wear, groceries, drinks and snacks, alcohol, sun-screen, insect repellent etc.
