You’ll explore the world’s largest sand island from the comfort of a custom-built 4WD coach, as you learn about the ecology, wildlife, and history of this special place.
The local Butchulla custodians call the island “K’gari”, which means paradise, and once you arrive, you’ll soon see why…
Your guide is a K’gari expert with local knowledge and a passion for the island. You'll explore some of the most beautiful spots and listen to fascinating facts about the island's history, fauna and flora in airconditioned comfort. They’ll drive you across the sand tracks and navigate the tides and unique terrain.
K’gari Beach Resortoffers triple, double/twin and single hotel rooms along the spectacular 75 Mile Beach. Each resort room has been recently renovated and includes a private ensuiteand balcony or patio. The resort offers many facilities for guest use, but the best place to unwind at the end of your tour is at McKenzie’s on 75 Bar & Restaurant. Enjoy an evening at leisure, and select a meal from the à la carte menu.
Diverse wildlife are present on K’gari with dingoes, birds of prey and whales (July to October) seen on K’gari Explorer Tours. Spot wildlife from our 4WD coaches with custom-built panoramic windows. Keep an eye out for K’gari’smost famous resident –our pure-bred dingoes!
What you will see
• Central Station -View the interp displays and let out guides provide insight into a former logging station that was once the hub of a bustling timber industry.
• Wanggoolba Creek-Discover ancient King Ferns as you stroll along the Central Station boardwalk, purposely built alongside the clear fresh water creek. You might even spot marine life.
• Pile Valley –Walk through subtropical rainforests growing in sand and learn about the island’s famous Satinay Trees. The diverse forests are included in the Queen’s Commonwealth Canopy.
• Lake McKenzie -Enjoy a revitalising swim in the fresh, crystal blue water and relax on the sandy white silica beaches of this picture-perfect perched dune lake.
• 75 Mile Beach –Sit back and cruise the golden beach highway –the ‘spine of K’gari’, running from Hook Point to Great Sandy Cape. During this journey, take an extra opportunity to join the Air Fraser team for a scenic flight over the island.
• Eli Creek -Relax on the sandy banks, wade through the invigorating shallow waters or drift down stream –the fastest flowing creek on the island is sure to revitalise your mind, body and soul.
• Maheno Shipwreck -Learn the intriguing history of this once proud passenger liner that was washed ashore in 1935 during an out-of-season cyclone. While you’re at it, take the chance to stretch your legs and take a holiday snap with this rusting wreck.
• The Pinnacles Coloured Sands -One of K’gari’smore magical locations, you will hear the Dreamtime story of how these rainbow coloured cliffs came to be.
• Indian Head –Visit the most easterly point of the island, marine life such as turtles and rays are often spotted in the waters around the base of this rocky headland as you travel along 75 Mile Beach.
• Champagne Pools –Stimulate your senses and take a dip in a natural ocean jacuzzi, a natural rock pool filled by crashing waves.
• Lake Wabby -Trek across the shifting golden sands of the Hammerstone sandblow, and arrive at this hidden gem; a window and barrage lake, with glistening emerald green depths. (Please note: this is a 4km return walk through bushland and across soft sands -a moderate fitness level is required. The Lake Wabby walk is an optional activity).
GETTING HERE:
Courtesy Pick-up / Drop-off times: Pick ups are scheduled from 7.30am-7.50am. Drop offs occur from 5.00pm-5.30pm. Courtesy transfers are only available for commercial accommodation and transit centres.
Self-Driving: Rainbow Beach is approximately 3 hours drive north of Brisbane. Meet your guide at 36 Rainbow Beach Road for a prompt 7.45am departure.
DROP OFF: at the end of the second day, your tour departs K’gari at approximately 4.30pm on the barge, arriving back in Rainbow Beach between 5.00pm and 5.30pm to drop you off to your accommodation.

Courtesy Transfers: Please enter pickup destination when booking online and a collection time will be provided by our Reservation Team.
Self--in by 8.40am. Driving: Checkin at our Mainland Reception in River Heads. On Google Maps, this will appear as 54 Ariadne St. After arriving at this location, a courtesy coach will provide transport to the ferry departure point, and you will arrive directly at Kingfisher Bay Resort and board our custom 4WD coach. Let your guided adventure begin!
DROP OFF: at the end of the second day, board the 5.00pm ferry back to River Heads where our shuttle service will take you back to your accommodation (drop-off between 6.00pm and 7.00pm).
