Your ultimate reef experience begins with a courtesy coach pick up from your accommodation in Cairns or Cairns Northern Beaches approximately 30 to 40 minutes prior to departure. Pick up and departure times are flexible however early morning departures are recommended as you will have more chance to enjoy the sand cay all to yourselves. If you are self driving, you can also check in to the GBR Helicopters office at Marlin Marina by Cairns Esplanade prior to departure. Arriving at the Cairns central helipad, you will be greeted by your friendly Pilot and Guide and provided with head set for in flight commentary. Getting to and from the Coral Cay is half the fun with unbelievably beautiful views of Cairns, the surrounding golden beaches and of course the spectacular Great Barrier Reef. Your journey to paradise will take around 15 minutes and your pilot will provide information about the reef’s unique eco system and surrounding landmarks on the way. As you make your way above the mighty Great Barrier Reef, be rewarded with stunning views of the swirling reef formations, colourful coral gardens and the sparkling aqua and deep blue waters below. Your flight will have you soaring past Upolu Cay, Michaelmas Cay, Green Island and the Arlington Reef System. Upon arrival back to the Cairns central heli pad, you will then enjoy return coach transfers back to your accommodation in Cairns and Cairns Northern Beaches.

As your flight takes off from Port Douglas you will be greeted with beautiful views of the blue waters and golden sands of Cow Bay and the lush rainforest ranges of the Daintree Rainforest in the distance. As you fly above the Great Barrier Reef, marvel at the colourful reef and coral formations below as your Pilot provides information about the region’s unique eco system. Here you will gain a true understanding of the Great Barrier Reef’s sheer size from above! Soon you will find yourself flying above Batt Reef. With shallow lagoons this is the perfect opportunity to spot for marine life. Keep your eyes open for reef sharks, large tropical fish, rays and turtles. Heading north you will soon arrive at the northern tip of Tongue Reef, home to abundance of swirling coral formations, large coral bommies and descending coral walls. If travelling between July and September, your Pilot may even spot a Humpback Whale or Dwarf Minke Whale cruising in the ocean. Your flight will then continue north above Undine Reef and direct to your tropical cay destination.

Once landed, your guide will assist with snorkeling equipment and sun suits if required and you will then be free to explore the surrounding crystal clear waters, colourful coral gardens, marine life and reef formations. You will be provided with beach chairs, an umbrella and a picnic blanket so that you can really sit back and soak in this tropical paradise. Your experience will then be topped off with a gourmet picnic hamper with a fresh tropical platter, refreshments and glass of sparkling wine or beer. Cay landings are tide and availability dependent, tours may be amended to the destination of Castaway Beach South of Cairns extending the scenic flight over the reef to double the helicopter time. As your farewell your very own tropical paradise, you will board your luxury helicopter before making your return flight back to Port Douglas.
