Great Barrier Reef Scenic Flight and Agincourt Ribbon Reef Tours

Departing from Cairns or Port Douglas, there are number of tour options available that include a Great Barrier Reef scenic helicopter flight and a boat cruise to Agincourt Ribbon Reef, an activity platform located upon the outer edges of the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. 

Option 1: Boat Cruise Both Ways & 10 Minute Scenic Reef Flight Tour

Enjoy a boat cruise to Agincourt Ribbon Reef and a 10-minute scenic helicopter flight above the Great Barrier Reef direct from the Reef’s helipad.

Check-in

Your day begins with a 9.00am check in at the Quicksilver office at Reef Marina in Port Douglas.

Coach transfers from your accommodation in Cairns, Cairns Northern Beaches or Port Douglas can be arranged at an additional cost.

From here you will board your luxury catamaran for a 10.00am departure to the outer Great Barrier Reef for a day of snorkeling and scuba diving. 

Your boat awaits

Departing from Port Douglas at 10.00am, you will enjoy a 90-minute boat cruise to your outer reef location. Once onboard complimentary tea and coffee are served with some biscuits. 

Take a seat outside and enjoy the views or relax inside in the air conditioning. Have your camera ready as the views of the coastal beaches and the aqua waters of the Great Barrier Reef are fantastic! 30 minutes following departure you can enjoy a Marine Biologist presentation that will provide you with information about the Great Barrier Reef’s ecosystem and marine life.

If you have never snorkelled before and you're feeling a bit nervous there is also a snorkelling demonstration following this presentation to show you how easy it is.

For those who have pre-booked Scuba diving, Snorkeling Adventure Tours or Ocean Walker you will take part in your briefing onboard. 

Agincourt Ribbon Reef 

You will arrive at our outer Great Barrier Reef destination at 11.30am. Agincourt Ribbon Reef is situated on the very edge of Australia’s Continental Shelf, around 72 kilometres from Port Douglas and directly opposite the World Heritage Listed Daintree Rainforest, Cape Tribulation Rainforest and this, of course, means you will have pristine water clarity and visibility all year round.

Morning tea, afternoon tea and lunch are served on the Outer Barrier Reef pontoon during the day. Lunch is a superb tropical buffet, which includes fresh prawns, pasta, meats salads and fruits. There is also a full bar facility where drinks can be purchased during the day.

Our suggestion is to do a semi-submersible submarine tour first and then have a look at the underwater observatory on the platform and get these activities completed while you are still dry.

All snorkelling equipment is provided on the platform and the crew will look after and assist you in choosing the right gear for you. The platform allows easy access to the water and flotation devices and ropes are available for the not so confident swimmers.

Adjacent to the Coral Sea trench, the surrounding ribbon reefs boast clear waters and pristine snorkelling conditions. When back onboard, be sure to experience the fish feeding demonstration. 

10-Minute Scenic Reef Helicopter Flight 

When you first checked in you will have been provided with the departure time of your scenic reef helicopter flight.

Upon boarding your luxury helicopter, you will be provided with a headset for in-flight commentary provided by your pilot.

Departing from the helipad moored at Agincourt Reef, soon your flight will take off, lifting you 500 feet above the sea. As you ascend above the stunning Agincourt Reef System, you will be blown away by the vast beauty and sheer size of the world’s largest living organism.

Your helicopter pilot will provide information on the different reef systems and marine life that call the region home. You will be rewarded with breathtaking views of swirling reef formations, opal blue reef lagoons, colourful coral gardens and if you are lucky, marine life.

Turtles, Rays, Reef Sharks and large tropical fish can regularly be spotted from the aircraft. A true once in a lifetime experience! 

Return to Port Douglas

After a memorable and relaxing few hours at the pontoon, you will board the vessel at 3.00pm before making the 90-minute return trip back to Port Douglas.

Located on the very edge of Australia’s continental shelf, the ribbon reefs in the Agincourt Reef system are well known its clear waters and pristine scuba diving conditions. Located far from the tourist hot spots, you can expect to discover colourful coral formations and an abundance of marine life.

For beginners and first-time scuba divers, the activities platform houses its very own dive platform where intro divers will be provided with training. A briefing will take place onboard the boat en route to the reef. Introductory divers will then be led by experienced instructors into the open water where you will be guided through the reef’s stunning coral gardens.

Certified scuba divers can enjoy up to two spectacular dives at Agincourt Reef where visibility is excellent and the variety of marine life is exceptional. Your professional instructors can accompany all dives at no extra charge, ensuring maximum experiences, safety and enjoyment.

Upgrade to a Guided Snorkel Tour

Guests at the activities platform can choose to upgrade to a guided snorkelling tour led by a Marine Biologist. Choose from a beginner or advanced tour that will have you discovering the reef’s best locations and learning more about the magnificent marine life and ecosystem.

Beginner tours will introduce you to the Agincourt Reef’s marine life whilst the advanced tour will have you truly experience the hidden gems of this marvellous reef system. Your instructor will even teach you how to duck dive! 

Upgrade to a Seawalker Helmet Dive

Discover the beauty of the Great Barrier Reef without even getting your hair wet! Helmet Diving is a fun and unique way to explore the underwater wonders of Agincourt Reef.

You will be provided with a helmet that feeds fresh surface air straight into your helmet. Your guide will have you walking underwater on a reef platform whilst getting up close and personal to the many tropical fish and marine animals playfully swimming through the stunning coral gardens.

After enjoying a day at Agincourt Ribbon Reef, you will board your helicopter flight at 2.45pm as you prepare to experience not just one, but two World Heritage-listed natural wonders from above, the Great Barrier Reef and the Daintree Rainforest.

As your helicopter takes off from the helipad moored at the activities platform, you will soon be rewarded with breathtaking views of the mighty Great Barrier Reef. 

As you ascend into the sky, you soar directly above the point at which the reef meets the Coral Sea. Marvel at the transcending deep blue waters of the Coral Sea into the aqua blues and reef formations of the Great Barrier Reef.

The Coral Sea is a popular spot for Bottlenose Dolphins and Humpback Whales during the winter months so keep your eyes peeled!

Heading south-west, you will soon be soaring above the unique ribbon reef formations of the Agincourt Reef system.

Continuing south-west towards the mainland you will soon spot the coastal beaches and surrounding rainforest topped mountain ranges of Cape Tribulation.

In the distance, you will spot an endless sight of towering rainforest canopies and the mountainous ranges of the Great Dividing Range! Soon you will begin your descent back to the helipad in Port Douglas, but not before taking in the marvelous sights of Cooya Beach, Four Mile Beach and the fringing Alexandra Reefs. 

Return to Port Douglas

Your helicopter flight will return to Port Douglas at 3.20pm where you will then be provided with complimentary coach transfers back to your accommodation at 4.40pm.

Approaching Cape Kimberley, keep your eyes peeled for the white sands and fringing coral reefs of Snapper Island as you begin your journey above the world’s oldest rainforest, the Daintree Rainforest.

The Daintree is a World Heritage-listed natural wonder and as you soar above this natural spectacle look out for the mighty Daintree River.

As you continue north, you will bypass Cape Tribulation, the point in which the Great Barrier Reef meets the rainforest and a popular day trip destination from both Cairns and Port Douglas.

Now you will begin your journey above the Great Barrier Reef. Marvel at the opal blue waters below as you fly above an abundance of reef systems and sand island cays such as Undine Cay.

If a friend or family member is taking part in an introductory scuba dive, this is a great location to take a photo of them! In the distance, you will spot an endless sight of towering rainforest canopies and the mountainous ranges of the Great Dividing Range! Fly over the ever popular Low Isles and see the snorkellers in the waters below. Soon you will begin your descent back to the helipad in Port Douglas, but not before taking in the marvelous sights of Cooya Beach, Four Mile Beach and the fringing Alexandra Reefs. 

Return to Port Douglas

Your flight will return to Port Douglas at 3.20pm where you will then be provided with complimentary coach transfers back to your accommodation at 4.40pm. Enjoy a drink or a bite to eat at one of the marina’s many restaurants, bars and cafes as you watch the boat return to the marina.

Upon checking in for your boat cruise to Agincourt Ribbon Reef, you will have been provided with the departure time for your scenic reef flight.

Upon boarding your luxury aircraft, you will be provided with a headset for in-flight commentary provided by your pilot.

Departing from the helipad moored at Agincourt Reef, soon your flight will take off, lifting you 500 feet above the sea. As you ascend above the stunning Agincourt Reef System, you will be blown away by the vast beauty and sheer size of the world’s largest living organism.

Your pilot will provide information on the different reef systems and marine life that call the region home.

You will be rewarded with breathtaking views of swirling reef formations, opal blue reef lagoons, colourful coral gardens and if you are lucky, marine life. Turtles, Rays, Reef Sharks and large tropical fish can regularly be spotted from the aircraft.

  • Certain medical conditions and medications may preclude some people from scuba diving and helmet diving/scuba doo.
  • Participation is subject to medical questionnaires completed on board with the tour operator.
  • Minimum age for scuba diving and helmet diving/scuba doo is 12 years.
  • Flying after scuba diving: a wait of 12 hours is recommended after one dive, 18 hour after 2 dives and at least 24 hours after multiple dives, before ascending to an altitude of 300 metres or greater.
