If you decide to travel aboard the Skyrail cableway first, you’ll be taken to the Smithfield Terminalto begin your tourtraversing the side of the mountain.

Gliding over rainforest canopy in your gondola, you’ll have plenty of photo and selfie opportunities as you take in spectacular views of Cairns, the Great Barrier Reef, vast tropical landscape, and then the Barron Falls and river.
Once at the quaint village of Kuranda, explore at your leisure. Venture along one of the many walking tracks; visit the daily Heritage Markets; grab a bite to eat at one of the many cafés and restaurants; or cuddle a koala at the Kuranda Koala Gardens.
Your return-leg home to Cairns aboard the Kuranda Train and Scenic Railway will wind through tunnels, past thick rainforest, and waterfalls tumbling into deep ravines.
From Freshwater Station, you’ll be transferred back to your accommodation in the northern beaches or stay on the train and walk back to your hotel or cruise ship in Cairns.
You’ll start your day with a pick-up in luxury coach from your Cairns or Northern Beaches accommodation.
The pick-up time all depends whether you’d like to start your day as early as 7am, or as late as 1.15pm and dependant on the time your cruise ship berths in Cairns.
Keep in mind this will affect how much time you’re able to spend in Kuranda, which ranges from no time at all, to an hour, two, three, and so on, to the maximum amount of time of five hours.
You’ll also be able to decide which of the iconic Cairns’ experiences you’d like to hop aboard first for your journey to Kuranda: the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, or the Kuranda Train Scenic Railway.
You would have decided all this before boarding the coach, so for now sit back in your reclining, leather seat as your knowledgeable driver provides an overview of what you can expect from the day
If you’ve chosen to travel aboard the Kuranda Train and Scenic Railway for the first leg of your journey, your coach transfer will deliver you to Freshwater Train Station.
It’s here you’ll board your assigned carriage of the historic Kuranda Scenic Rail Train.
As you climb to Kuranda the ‘Village in the Rainforest’, located 330m above sea level, you’ll winding through tunnels, across bridges, past thick rainforest, and waterfalls tumbling into deep ravines.
As you pass breathtaking views you’ll understand how lives were lost during the construction of this magnificent railway line in the late 1800s.
It’s an incredible journey, made even more so by the informative audio commentary, which brings the stories of the railway to life.
The journey takes approximately 90 minutes, including a stop along the way at the Barron Falls lookout for about 10 minutes.
Upgrade to a Gold Class Carriage aboard the Kuranda Train and Scenic Railway where you’ll be treated to dedicated host service, lounge-style chairs, and delectable delights from the Atherton Tablelands and Queensland such as Gallo Dairyland cheese, Skybury coffee, Wondaree macadamias, Sirromet Wines, Great Northern lager, and more.

Once you’ve arrived at Kuranda Village, explore at your own leisure.
The thriving café scene means there are plenty of options for a bite to eat, including Frogs Restaurant, located at the Heritage Markets – or perhaps you’d prefer French or German?
The daily, all-weather markets are a testament to the ingrained arts culture of Kuranda Village.
You’ll find plenty of local arts and craft, souvenirs, and more.
Or explore one of the many walking trails surrounding the village, suitable for every age and fitness level.
Go on a riverside stroll, further into the rainforest, or to one of the lookouts.
Or explore one of the top wildlife attractions, including Birdworld, Australia’s largest butterfly sanctuary, and the Kuranda Koala Gardens.

For the return trip home to Cairns from Kuranda Village, aboard the Skyrail Rainforest Cableway gondola, you’ll glide over rainforest canopy while enjoying spectacular panoramic views of the Great Barrier Reef and waterfalls.
Take the opportunity to alight at the two rainforest stations for a walk around to admire the view and visit the interpretation centre.
The first is Barron Falls Station. Here you’ll have access to the CSIRO Rainforest Interpretation Centre.
Red Peak Station is the second stop where you can enjoy a complimentary ranger-guided tour of the rainforest.
Once you’ve arrived at Smithfield Skyrail Terminal, your coach will be waiting to return you to your accommodation.
For an even more immersive experience you may upgrade to a Diamond View gondola, where, in addition to spectacular panoramic views, you’ll have the unique experience of being able to see through the perspex glass floor of the gondola carriage.
This is not for the faint hearted!
