Rainforestation Nature Park

On this Kuranda tour we visit Kuranda Rainforestation Nature Park where you can enjoy Aboriginal culture and a native Australian wildlife tour and indulge in a BBQ lunch. In the wildlife sanctuary, you'll be able to hand feed a few kangaroos or even upgrade to have your picture taken cuddling up beside a koala!

Your Cairns tour adventure includes one of the country’s historic attractions, the Kuranda Train and Scenic Railway. Running through mountain peaks and past cascading waterfalls, this will complete a day full of historical, cultural, and natural wonder.

Enjoy the Pamagirri Aboriginal indigenous cultural show, were you will participate in a Dreamtime Walk and if you so desire have a turn at throwing a boomerang, learn to play the didgeridoo and watch a spear throwing demonstration.

Our Kuranda Rainforestation tour also includes a journey through the wild rainforest on an authentic World War II Army Duck.

Travel to Kuranda Rainforestation via a comfortable air-conditioned 100% electric coach.

Kuranda Train and Scenic Railway

Your carriage awaits! The Kuranda Train and Scenic Railway has been climbing its way through World Heritage rainforest for 120 years.

Rising 328m above sea level, you’ll experience an elevated panorama of surrounding rainforest and gorges, and no less than 15 handmade tunnels cut into the Macalister Ranges.

This train is still considered an iconic engineering accomplishment in this day and age, though the historical beauty will remind you of a yesteryear era.

Over 37 breathtaking bridges, you’ll pass by natural wonders such as the flourishing Stoney Creek Falls and remarkable Barron Gorge, close enough to touch.

Discover Kuranda the Village in the Rainforest Behind Cairns

Well known for the creative people who call Kuranda home, the village offers stunning indigenous galleries and likewise boasts an array of photographic art.

You’ll find everything from intricate leather handbags, to breathtaking opal jewellery.

The freshly made local delights also extend as far as homemade tropical ice-creams and sorbets, Spanish Style doughnuts and traditional felafels.

If some of the unique local artwork or craft is your desire, Kuranda prides itself on posting worldwide for those souvenirs that won't fit in the suitcase!

Optional Australian Butterfly Sanctuary

Take in the sight of a brilliant aqua-hued Ulysses, and the incredible 27cm Hercules moth. These vivid creatures can be seen in Australia's largest butterfly aviary.

Take the chance to enjoy the free guided tour to learn even more about the inhabitants. The beautiful Purple Azure butterfly you'll see actually changes colour due to humidity.

Which means further down the coast it will appear blue, but here it wears a vivid amethyst! You'll also find a museum, breeding laboratory with 4000 species, a wondrous myth and legend room, and even a UV light display, as some butterflies glow in the dark.

Kuranda Rainforestation Aboriginal cultural and wildlife park

Kuranda Rainforestation Nature Park is a sanctuary for native Australian animals rare and wondrous, cute and cuddly.

It’s here you'll be invited to feed kangaroos and wallabies, and if you so choose cuddle up with a koala and have your photo taken (optional extra).

You'll also have the opportunity to wander around the park and take in sights like ‘Jack the Ripper’, a 5m Saltwater crocodile or join a guided tour.

You may even get the chance to meet an adorable wombat; this furry creature sleeps a lot of the day, but is playful in nature and surprisingly quick to learn and make friends.

Pamagirri Aboriginal Cultural Experience - Kuranda

The colourful Pamagirri Aboriginal people tell their Dreamtime legends through song and dance, in native costume and astonishing detail.

These Aboriginal Indigenous peoples have been guardians of the land for tens of thousands of years, and share their traditions in the most remarkable way.

The music in the show is partly created by a didgeridoo, which you may be invited to play on the Rainbow Serpent Walk.

Hear the way the Pamagirri people can imitate the sounds of tropical birds on this musical instrument.

You may also have the opportunity to throw both a boomerang and spear. Your friendly guide can give you expert advice.

Army Duck Kuranda Rainforest Tour

Travel aboard a vehicle from a bygone era. On an authentic World War II Army Duck, you'll gain a new perspective of the ancient rainforest.

Boasting Australia's largest fleet of amphibious vehicles, ride across a thrilling landscape in this rainforest wonderland. You’ll hear a presentation along the way about the park’s rare tropical fruit orchard, and how this environment is home to a few creatures found nowhere else the world!

Your ‘Duck Captain’ may spot a couple of rare turtles for you, or even Boyd’s dragon; a lizard known only to Far North Queensland.
