How to Join

Our yacht is moored at Nelly Bay on Magnetic Island, with easy access from Townsville via regular ferries starting as early as 5:30 am. The last ferry back to Townsville departs at 11:00 pm, giving you plenty of time to enjoy your day.

Magnetic Island - Great Barrier Reef - Townsville

Magnetic Island, or as the locals call it ‘Maggie’ is located only half an hour ferry ride (8km) from Townsville.

When it comes to stunning islands, this ruggedly beautiful gem located on the Great Barrier Reef in Far North Queensland is certainly worth a visit.

With rocky granite headlands, bordered by towering hoop pines that stand like sentinels over the pristine sandy bays, the mountains on Magnetic Island are covered with eucalypt koala-harbouring woodlands, all surrounded by fringing reefs, sea grass beds and mangrove communities.

Over half of Magnetic island (2,790ha) is protected and known as the Magnetic Island National Park.

The golden sandy beaches are important turtle nesting areas and the mangrove shelters fish nurseries.

The sea grass beds attract feeding turtles and dugongs, which are all great to see when you are snorkeling or swimming around the coral reef gardens.

The Wulgurukab Aboriginal people inhabited Magnetic Island for thousands of years, and called the island  ‘Yunbenun’.

In 1770 James Cook landed unexpectedly on Magnetic Island due to compass failure.

It was from that point forward that the island was aptly re-named (perhaps non-Magnetic Island might have been more fitting!).

Your private yacht charter sailing experience

You and your loved one will leave from Magnetic Island Marina to start your Great Barrier Reef sailing charter.

Times are flexible but it is recommended that you start your sailing tour around 10.30am, which will give you enough time for gentle sailing, exploring, swimming and snorkelling plus time to relax and dine on a delicious lunch.

Magnetic Island National Park is filled with a good variety of animals from koalas to rock wallabies, possums and more smaller native Australian animals.

If you look up to the bright blue sky you will see circling kites, ospreys and sea eagles.

The standard private yacht charter duration is four hours which will give you enough time to enjoy some peaceful sailing, enjoy a nice catered lunch, and time for swimming and a snorkel.

You also have the option to add addtional hours.

A five or six hour sail would to allow you to completely circumnavigate around the island and allow for a bit more relaxing sailing time. 

Extra hours will allow you a bit more freedom to visit more remote bays and enjoy the complete privacy of your own paradise and beaches.

Private day charters have a finishing time of 4.00pm, so it’s your call how you want to structure your day.

Your luxury yacht, is custom-built, she has a spacious 58ft (17m) length and is licensed for up to 24 passengers and there is plenty of room to kick back and relax.

Built and designed to maximize stability and wave holding, she is also a comfortable and smooth ride.

Catering on your luxury charter yacht

Your day is fully catered and you will be amazed!

Lunch comprises three courses: a gourmet antipasto platter, a local prawn platter and a fresh fruit platter with chocolates served with Champagne, organic wines or premium beers. 

​All produce is sourced locally, wherever possible, and is of the highest quality.  

We serve lunch on board, although if you prefer we can set you up on the beach with some champagne and the antipasto platter so you can enjoy one of the stunning beaches for a little while.

We cater for special dietary requirements although notice is required.

Not only will your eyes be spoilt, but we also hope that your taste buds will also be enriched by this sailing experience.

Relaxing

Water activities

Magnetic Islands waters are clear and warm and ideal for swimming and snorkeling. 

If you prefer to be on the water, then you can standup paddleboard in one of the pristine bays that you will visit on your day.

Whilst swimming and snorkelling, you might be greeted by Charlie the friendly cod and get close up and personal as you hand feed the curious batfish.

Wildlife

While sailing you will get a chance to discover the local wildlife surrounding Magnetic Island on the Great Barrier Reef.

Some of the species regularly spotted are batfish and other reef fish, kites, sea-eagles, turtles and maybe dugongs.

During whale season (May to September) you may be lucky enough to see the amazing sight of migrating humpback whales which will literally be one of those draw-dropping experiences of a lifetime.

These majestic animals come to the warmer waters of the Great Barrier Reef to mate and give birth in the safety of the coral gardens.

The yacht is based on Magnetic Island and your day begins from Nelly Bay. 

If you are coming from Townsville then it’s only just a short walk away from the Sealink ferry once you arrive at Magnetic Bay to where the boat is moored.

We meet our guests next to the Boardwalk Restaurant at Peppers Blue on Blue Resort.

After a welcome from the crew you will be guided to our sailing yacht so your sailing cruise can begin.

Departure Instructions

• We are based at Nelly Bay, <agnetic Island.
• One of the crew will meet you on the corner of the Peppers Blue on Blue deck & next to the Car Ferry Ramp 15 minutes before the scheduled cruise start time.
• The deck is situated outside the restaurant at the Peppers resort, if you see chairs, tables and umbrellas you're in the right spot.
• Please do not come to the boat as it is a private marina, and all guests must be escorted.
• DIRECTIONS TO MEETING SPOT FROM FERRY TERMINAL: When disembarking the ferry, turn left immediately (before the terminal building). Hug the foreshore walking across the car barge ramp to the deck area outside Peppers Blue on Blue Resort's restaurant.
