The majority of us have fantasied about swimming under the ocean while breathing, in a dreamy glide among the gardens and extraordinary marine life. Once you embark on your very first introductory scuba dive, it will only take 3 hours to learn the skills, technique and personal comfort level to make this diving dream a reality.
Your introductory scuba diving adventure awaits at Arcadia on Magnetic Island. For those staying on the island, you’ll find regular buses to drop you there. And for individuals travelling across from the mainland at Townsville, you can take the scenic ferry.
Firstly, you’ll gain an understanding of scuba diving principles; such as getting used to your equipment, clearing your mask, breathing underwater and a few safety tips. You can do this in the purpose built swimming pool, or directly in the ocean!
Once your comfort levels are high and giving into excitement, we are then off to the shores of Alma Bay to discover marine life in a mesmerising and unforgettable voyage in the waters of the Great Barrier Reef.
To begin your learn to dive course, you’ll meet at the dive headquarters at Arcadia on pristine Magnetic Island.
This is where you’ll become acquainted with your expert dive instructo.
Depending on both the weather and your level of comfort, some groups go through new skills in a purpose-made swimming pool, and others opt to head directly to the beach and learn their diving techniques in the ocean!
Some of the scuba diving knowledge you’ll gain is the use and familiarization of your equipment in the water.
It won’t take long until your apparatus and breathing feels natural to you.

You’ve seen how it looks in a movie; an ethereal diver, gliding the fathoms of the endless blue and drifting across a mesmerising labyrinth of seabed and marine life.

The best part is, no experience is necessary to dive, as you’ll gain all the expert tuition you need on this 3 hour introductory dive course with incredible dive instructors.
You’ll spend around 40 minutes underwater, and after picking up on new found scuba skills, you’ll breathe easily and drift weightless below the surface. T
he sheer exhilaration of swimming through the crystal-clear waters here is matched by the breathtaking and abundant appearance of weird and wondrous marine life.

By this stage, you will have learned how to clear your mask and regulator, control buoyancy, and become one with your scuba equipment.
And here’s a little of what you can expect to do with it! If you’ve learned your scuba diving skills in a purpose built swimming pool, you’ll head to the stunning shores of Alma Bay.
If you’re already there, the adventure begins immediately! With your new found aptitude and talent, you’ll glide on an underwater journey through the crystal-clear and balmy waters.
Alma Bay is a perfect dive site for beginners due to gentle shallows and abundant marine life.
Your expert dive instructor will not only be with you every kick of the way.
By choosing this particular 3 hour introductory dive course, you’ll not only gain scuba skills and discover a whole new extraordinary undersea world, but you’ll be doing it in paradise too!
You could opt to stay in Townsville, an ambient country down disguised as a city, and travel the scenic ferry over to Magnetic Island for your dive.
Or, you could live the island life with accommodation on stunning Magnetic Island. Both offer budget-friendly and opulent choices, with a laid-back tropical atmosphere.
One of the remarkable options of this island is the Koala Village at Bungalow Bay; the only resort in Australia with a wildlife park attached! Magnetic Island, or ‘Maggie’ to the locals is an array of beach coves set in a semi-circle around rainforest.
And whether you’re staying at Nelly, Horseshoe, Picnic or Alma bays, you’ll find it a short trip either on foot, or by regular bus route to your diving destination.
The ocean is full of weird, wonderful and absolutely jaw-dropping species. Some divers head to the Great Barrier Reef for the extraordinary rainbow of reef fish, in the form of turquoise Parrots, vivid orange Clowns (Nemo), and buttery-yellow Angels.
