Skyrail rainforest journey views

A must-do Cairns activity, the multi-award winning Skyrail stretches over 7 km through the ancient tropical rainforest of North Queensland. This unique ecotourism attraction offers passengers one of the world’s top rainforest experiences. Up to 700 passengers per hour can travel in 114 gondolas in a safe and environmentally-friendly way, with Skyrail  giving them a unique vantage point over the rainforest canopy and scenery as well as views over Cairns’ tropical region and the sparkling Coral Sea. Gondolas descend through the canopy layers on approach to the first rainforest station, Red Peak, and take passengers deep within the forest. Approaching Barron Falls Station, incredible views of the deep Barron Gorge greets passengers.

Skyrail station attractions

Skyrail’s two rainforest mid-stations, Red Peak and Barron Falls, give passengers the opportunity of exploring the rainforest close-up. On boardwalks designed to take advantage of this incredible ecosystem, passengers can stroll through the lush scenery and enjoy stunning lookouts, especially the choice of three overlooking the deep Barron Gorge with its thick rainforest vegetation. Also at Barron Falls station and enhancing this experience is the state-of-the-art Rainforest Interpretation Centre. An educational and fun resource for children as well as people of all ages, the centre unveils the facts on this wonder of nature in a compelling fashion.

Kuranda Attractions

A choice of attractions for the whole family await only minutes’ walk from Skyrail’s Kuranda Terminal at the famous ‘Village in the Rainforest’. These include a Bird Aviary, Koala Park and the Butterfly Sanctuary which has over 2000 butterflies and the largest moth in the world. For kids into centipedes, leaf insects, scorpions, spiders and snakes, the Venom Zoo and its live venom milking will intrigue them! For those wanting more creatures to view, the Kuranda Riverboat and Rainforest Tour will appeal. Over 100 bird species can be seen, as well as turtles, fish and water dragons. All attractions are optional and vary in admission rates. There are also more walking tracks in Kuranda as well as markets, shops, cafes and restaurants.
