We return to the yacht where a beautifully prepared lunch awaits. Guests then enjoy a leisurely sail to an island snorkelling site. Snorkelling is entirely optional—those who prefer to relax can savour a drink on deck while others explore the colourful reef below.

Launched in 1961 this beautiful John G. Alden Ketch takes us back in time to the days when Australia’s most famous sailing races were dominated not by technology and sponsorship, but by beautiful timber boats designed with timeless, graceful lines.
Built by John Cockle at his builder’s yards in Milperra, Sydney this majestic vessel was named after his wife Enid.
Lady Enid is well known within the established Australian yachting fraternity and has a long tradition of racing including five Sydney to Hobart races and 15 Brisbane to Gladstone races, sealing her place in Australian racing history when she came first over the line in the first ever Sydney to Brisbane (now Mooloolaba) race in 1964.
Her Journey Continues
Enid was then purchased by the McRae family, who continued racing Enid in the Sydney to Hobart races. The McRae family owned McRae Knitting, which was well known for their brand – Speedo.
Norm Thurecht who owned large sawmills in Brisbane and whose love of timber yachts saw the Thurecht family own Enid for 26 years, Norm skippered Enid in many races before he put her into retirement.
Enid Cockle herself, at 95 years old, visited the ketch Enid during the refit in Ballina NSW (June 2015) with her two daughters Liz & Sue and reminisced about the build and how exciting it was for the kids to witness the pouring the keel in the backyard. They also talked about John’s love of racing and the many family holidays to the South Pacific.
Home in the Whitsundays
The Graham family now own this beautiful lady and have given her a home sailing the beautiful Whitsunday Islands. They gave her a wonderful restoration over a period of six months. She now sails guests around the Whitsundays as a day sailing experience.
Jeremy and Nicole wanted to showcase Lady Enid as an elegant adventure sailing experience through the magnificent Whitsunday Islands to Whitehaven Beach. They are no strangers to tourism having successfully provided many wonderful memories with Sundowner Cruises from Airlie Beach to many locals and tourists alike.
Take a look at our sunset cruise and more snorkelling tours in the Whitsundays from Airlie Beach or Hamilton Island.
There is no set itinerary on our sali and snorkel tours, and our typical day may be subject to changes due to weather conditions & tides.
Our snorkelling locations may vary depending on weather conditions and our skipper will select the best location on your day of travel to ensure you get the best experience.
--Access & Fitness--
A certain level of mobility is required to get off and back onto the yacht, and enjoy the bushwalk to access Whitehaven Beach.
Our vessel is not accessible for wheelchairs or other mobility aids. As a classic timber racing yacht, there are many steps up and down, narrow walkways, and a set of steep ladder-like steps to go below decks, where the bathroom and kitchen facilities are. A certain level of mobility is required to be able to enjoy a day out on Lady Enid.
In addition to the vessel itself, the dock ramp may be steep at low tide and there are steps to board the boat herself at the dock. Keep in mind it is a working yacht, and there are ropes and stays around the boat that you may need to step over, duck under, and be mindful of. To get in and out of the dinghy at sea, guests must climb down a ladder on the outside of the yacht, into a floating dinghy at the bottom. Upon arrival at the beach, guests must climb out of the dinghy, and may have to step into shallow water. The walk to the lookout on Langford Island is marked by Queensland Parks as ‘rough’ or grade 3. The Hill Inlet walk to the lookout over Whitehaven Beach on Whitsunday Island is marked by Queensland Parks as ‘moderate’ or grade 2. Both comprise of a combination of sloped, dirt and sand bushwalking trails and large man-made stone steps. Comfortable footwear is advised.
--Catering--
We can cater for most dietary requirements, with advance notice. Please let us know when you book. Vegan options will incur a surcharge.
--Seacickness--
If you are prone to seasickness, it is a good idea to check with a chemist for the best preventative motion sickness medication (natural or medicated) for you. We do not sell sea sickness pills on board the boat. Please remember that tablets are a preventative, not a cure, so it’s best to take them before we depart, and bring some with you to take during the day if needed.
