After pick-up from your holiday accommodation, you’ll be welcomed onto an air-conditioned bus and shuttled to the stunning realms of Barron Gorge National Park.

This World Heritage-listed beauty is part of the famed Wet Tropics, and your surroundings today are a backdrop of the oldest jungle known to man.

With a degree in 'fun' and a certification with the International White Water Rafting Federation, your expert river guides will have already started your journey with a welcoming friendliness.

Get geared up and get ready for Fun!

The next adventure begins upon the beautiful banks of Lake Placid. Moving on from there, your raft instructors will suit you up with helmet and buoyancy vest, and share some safety tips, along with manoeuvers to enhance your rafting experience.

Once you have done some rock hopping you reach the beginning of the Barron River and it's time to ride the crystal tides in your white water rafts. 

Get ready for the most thrilling wet and wild activity, as you joyride overflowing ledges and swirl around the cascades created by ancient boulders.

There will also be ample opportunity to drift along captivating streams and take in a remarkable view of mountain peaks, lush valleys and perhaps even some unique wildlife.

These white water rapids are grade 1 - 3 and you negotiate your way down the river based on the force of the water.

Begin your White Water Rafting Adventure

From your Cairns accommodation, you’ll join a welcoming bus ride bound for the refreshing waters of the Barron Gorge National Park.

Along the journey, your hosts will explain a couple of safety tips, and the best white water manoeuvers to enrich your experience.

They also share some intriguing facts about the World Heritage rainforest, the rare wildlife that resides there, and the woven indigenous legends.

From the stunning shores of Lake Placid, to the crystal-clear streams of Barron River, you’ll embark on a sensational wild exploration! River shoes are available too, if you don’t want to get your own wet on holiday. 

Barron Gorge National Park

The Barron Gorge National Park is an ancient rainforest estimated at over 100 million years old.

Lake Placid which you’ll find along your travels is a stunning lagoon rich with rare vegetation and wildlife.

And at your ‘Drop In’ point (where you enter the water) there lies in a majestic bowl of ancient boulders that stand sentry along the steep cliffs of this spellbinding gorge.

The park extends from coastal lowlands to the elevated regions of the Atherton Tableland, and the gleaming river winds through the Macalister and Lamb ranges to meet with the Coral Sea.

You’ll find the wonder of this timeless sanctuary a perfect host to your white water rafting experience.

Grade 3 White Water River Rapids

One of the best parts about paddling through this natural theme-ride is that the water levels promise an electrifying experience all year round!

This tour takes advantage of a grade 3 river joyride that the planet provided!

You will experience waves reaching a metre or so, with the water tumbling in crystal waters around granite boulders that decorate the river.

The mysterious narrow chutes will mean you get to put those water manipulation skills you’ve learned into practice.

You’ll glide over a few small falls, and encounter some exciting dips and canyons along the way. 

Barron River Wildlife

You may be so taken by the legendary scenery here, it could be easy to forget the iconic nature of your surroundings.

Yet it’s astonishing to bear in mind the fanning rainforest on the shoreline is part of the oldest on our planet!

And they’ll be some spots where the river is calm and you can take in the stunning scenery, and perhaps spot a few of its unique inhabitants.

With a whopping 60% of Australian butterfly species flitting around, there’s every possibility you’ll encounter the majestic emerald and gold of a Birdwing, the largest butterfly in the country. 

White Water Rafting on the Barron River

From a glorious granite canyon ‘Drop In’ point, you’ll join a smooth current that takes you on a remarkable journey. In the glistening cascades of a few ‘Face Wash’ grade 3 rapids, you’ll experience thrills and spills as you manoeuver the flowing ledges and chutes that lead to a flush out basin.

Don’t fear if you’ve never rafted before; with expert tuition and the accompanying exhilaration you’ll form on this ride, you’ll be gliding like a professional in no time.
