Australia’s only underwater accommodation on the Great Barrier Reef. Sleep four metres below the surface in luxury Reef Suites at Hardy Reef, with all meals, beverages, snorkelling, submarine tour and reef access included.
Whitsundays underwater accommodation does not get more exclusive than this. These underwater luxury Reef Suites are the first of their kind in Australia, offering guests the chance to sleep beneath the surface of the Great Barrier Reef at Hardy Reef in the Whitsundays.
Only two underwater suites exist, positioned four metres below the surface with uninterrupted views of coral gardens and marine life. Floor-to-ceiling glass separates guests from the reef, creating a fully immersive underwater stay.
The Hardy Reef floating pontoon in the Whitsundays was developed at a cost of approximately $10 million and is the first structure in Australia to offer true underwater hotel-style accommodation on the Great Barrier Reef.
Guests enjoy a 2-day, 1-night experience sleeping on the reef, moored approximately 40 nautical miles offshore from Airlie Beach at Hardy Reef. Each Reef Suite accommodates two guests and offers underwater viewing from both the bedroom and private ensuite.
Arrivals are available from Airlie Beach, Hamilton Island or Daydream Island via scenic boat cruise, or by private helicopter transfer for guests seeking a premium arrival experience.
As day visitors depart in the afternoon, overnight guests remain on the reef. Once night falls, underwater lights are activated outside the suites, attracting nocturnal marine life and creating continuous reef viewing from bed throughout the evening.
With only two underwater hotel rooms available, early booking is essential. Both suites feature floor-to-ceiling glass windows, creating the feeling of sleeping inside a living underwater aquarium.
Available configurations:
• King double
• Twin single
Both the bedroom and ensuite offer uninterrupted reef views.
At night, external lighting illuminates the reef, attracting marine species that are rarely seen during daylight hours. Guests can watch reef fish and nocturnal species perform their underwater ballet directly from bed.
Over 4,000 new corals have been planted around the pontoon, encouraging marine life to settle close to the underwater accommodation.
All meals are included, with dinner served under the stars on the pontoon deck. Breakfast, morning tea and afternoon tea are also provided. Beer and wine are included throughout the stay, with cocktails and spirits available for purchase.
Your stay includes:
• Private guided snorkelling tour
• Semi-submersible submarine tour
• Access to the underwater observatory
These activities allow guests to experience the reef both in and out of the water.
• Scuba diving
• Scenic helicopter transfers
• Extended overnight stays where availability allows
Guests arrive at Hardy Reef via boat transfer or helicopter. The afternoon includes snorkelling, submarine tours, underwater observatory access and time relaxing on the pontoon.
As the sun sets, dinner is served on deck and the reef transitions into a quieter, more intimate environment.
Guests retire to their Reef Suites. Underwater lights attract marine life to the windows, allowing continuous reef viewing throughout the night.
After breakfast, guests enjoy additional time on the pontoon before returning to the mainland or islands.
• Children aged 10 years and over are welcome
• Children must be accompanied by an adult
