A fast-paced Whitsundays snorkelling adventure from Airlie Beach featuring two reef snorkel sites, Hill Inlet Lookout and time at both North and South Whitehaven Beach.

This tour is designed for travellers who want maximum variety in one Whitsundays day, combining reef snorkelling, island walking and beach time without long transit delays.

Departing from Airlie Beach, the experience uses custom-built high-speed inflatable vessels to access locations faster than traditional boats. That speed is not about thrill alone, it directly translates into longer snorkelling sessions, longer beach visits and more flexibility throughout the day.

What genuinely sets this tour apart is its direct landing at Lookout Beach within Hill Inlet. Most Whitsundays tours approach Hill Inlet via Tongue Bay, requiring longer walks and tighter schedules. Landing directly on the beach allows guests to explore Hill Inlet first, when light and tide conditions are often at their best, before continuing to both ends of Whitehaven Beach.

Snorkelling takes place at sheltered fringing reef systems around Hook Island and nearby islands. These reefs are protected from open ocean swell, making them ideal for both first-time snorkellers and confident swimmers. The coral formations here are shallow and close to shore, which is why marine life encounters are frequent, and water clarity is often excellent.

What to Expect

The day begins with courtesy pick-up from Airlie Beach accommodation and check-in at Coral Sea Marina North. After a safety briefing, the vessel departs at speed toward the Whitsunday Islands.

Snorkelling locations are selected on the day by the skipper based on tide, wind direction and visibility. This flexibility is important, as conditions change daily in the Whitsundays. Typical snorkelling sites include areas around Hook Island and Border Island, where fringing reefs support coral gardens, giant clams, reef fish and regular turtle sightings.

Snorkelling instruction is provided before entering the water, and flotation devices are available. Even guests who have never snorkelled before are usually comfortable within minutes due to the calm conditions and shallow reef structure.

After snorkelling, the tour lands directly at Hill Inlet beach. From here, a guided national park walk leads to Hill Inlet Lookout. The swirling silica sands below are shaped by tidal movement, meaning the colours and patterns change throughout the day. This natural phenomenon is why Hill Inlet looks different in every photograph and is widely regarded as one of the most striking coastal views in Australia.

Time is also spent at the southern end of Whitehaven Beach, where guests can swim, walk along the shoreline or simply experience the contrast between pure white silica sand and turquoise water.

The return journey to Airlie Beach is fast and fun, often with a little friendly racing between vessels, followed by afternoon tea served onboard.
