Travel from Townsville’s Breakwater Marina on a small-group eco adventure that showcases the quieter, more pristine side of Magnetic Island. This half-day Discovery Tour operates on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, departing at 7:30am and returning around 2:00pm, making it ideal for travellers wanting a rich Great Barrier Reef experience without a full-day commitment.

From the moment you leave the marina, the focus is on education, connection and exploration. You will cruise to a selection of sheltered bays and beaches around Magnetic Island, chosen on the day to suit weather and sea conditions. These locations are known for their calm waters, fringing coral reefs and regular marine life encounters.

Onboard are two Master Reef Guides, the only accredited guides of their kind based on Magnetic Island. With decades of local knowledge, they provide engaging, easy-to-understand commentary on the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, island ecology, wildlife behaviour and the cultural history of Magnetic Island. Every bay has its own story, and those stories are shared throughout the day.

Snorkelling takes place directly from the vessel or the moveable floating pontoon, with full briefings and guidance provided. Whether it is your first time snorkelling or you are confident in the water, the crew tailor the experience so everyone can participate comfortably. Outside the water, there is time to relax, paddleboard, float or simply enjoy the scenery.

From July to September, the tour also offers the chance to spot migrating humpback whales as they pass through local waters, adding an unforgettable highlight to the experience.
